KBIS 2017 Recap

KBIS 2017 has officially ended and it’s back to reality for many professionals in the kitchen and bath field. So, you may be wondering what KBIS is. Well, it stands for the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show, and it showcases the latest in kitchen and bath design (with over 500 vendors!), provides educational classes, networking, and other fun events! This year it was held in Orlando, Florida and people from all over the world were in attendance. Check out our KBIS 2017 recap below!

Our Favorite Finds

A major part of KBIS is visiting booths and learning about what’s new from each vendor; good thing KBIS is stretched over 3 days because it’s a ton of walking! When we discussed our favorite things, a couple of things really stood out: the Urban Cultivator, Dacor’s new columns, and Elmwoods gorgeous walnut hood.

Urban Cultivator:
I think we all agreed after coming out of the show that this is an appliance we could put to good use. The Urban Cultivator grows herbs and micro-greens in your very kitchen! How many times have you purchased basil only to find it wilted in 2 days? Well, with the UC it takes care of the plants for you!

Dacor’s New Fridge and Freezer Columns:
Now this is something we were super excited about. Dacor is coming out with new Fridge and Freezer columns with no hardware. “Wait what? No hardware you say?” Yes, that’s correct, no hardware! With these new columns, all they need is a gentle touch and the doors will automatically open. “Well what happens if you didn’t mean to touch it?” Well, then it’s other new feature kicks in, automatic closing.

Elmwoods Walnut Hood
If this isn’t drool worthy, we don’t know what is! This walnut hood is sure to make a statement in any kitchen!

30 under 30 reveal

We are also very proud to announce that one of our very own, Rebecca Sutton, from our sister company was selected for the 30 under 30 by NKBA (National Kitchen and Bath Association) for KBIS! We are so proud of her accomplishments and look forward to seeing what she has in store for the future. At KBIS, the 30 under 30 recipients were announced and held presentations. Way to go Rebecca!

Reveal of 2017 trends

As part of one of the events that was held at KBIS, we had an insider panel reveal what their view on the 2017 trends will be. These insiders travel to kitchen and bath shows all over the world, and get a taste for what the trends are leaning towards. Here are their answers:

Alberto Villalobos– Sees a rise of use in technology specific towards kitchens and bath. Also, incorporating more sustainability such as growing stations (hello, Urban Cultivator!).

Jennifer Bertrand, AKBD– Sees a continued use of fireclay sinks and she also predicts the use of more colorful tile!

Karl Champley, AKBD and Master Builder– Sees a rise in more modern and minimalist spaces. Opening up the kitchen to encourage interaction on other spaces of the home is a great example.
